Phase III trial of covid-19 vaccine to begin soon in Bhubaneswar

The third phase of testing of indigenous vaccine against covid-19 on humans of covicin will soon begin in a private hospital here. An official told about this. Dr. E. Venkata Rao, Professor in the Department of Medical Medicine and Community Medicine Department at SUM Hospital and Chief Monitoring Officer in the trial of Covaxine, said on Sunday that the work of finding suitable vaccine for Kovid-19 is nearing final stage.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has approved 21 medical institutes of the country, including IMS and SUM Hospitals, for the Phase III trial. Dr. Rao said that the Central Pharmaceutical Standards Control Institute (CDSCO) has received approval to start the Phase III trial for the indigenous vaccine being developed by ICMR and Bharat Biotech. After the first and second phase of the trial, now this phase will be studied involving thousands of people.

The head of Preventive and Dental Diagnostic Testing Unit (PTCTU), Dr. Rao said that the age limit and etc. criteria would be relaxed during this phase. In contrast to the earlier phases, half of the people will be given covaccine. Health workers will also be included in this. Rao said that people have shown great enthusiasm to participate in the trial. He said that those over the age of 18 would be included in the test.
